The Windows version of SEB currently uses the Mozilla Gecko browser engine, either in the form of Firefox or XULRunner. The SEB browser loads and displays the LMS exam page using a preset URL and doesn't show any navigation elements like address bar, search engine field etc. Since this application has to control miscellaneous OS functions, it is designed very system specific. The kiosk application locks down the computer and starts the SEB browser plus optional third party applications. Optionally one or several third party application(s) can be allowed to run during an exam and are started by the SEB kiosk application. The third part of an SEB exam environment is build into the supported LMS. The illustration above shows the two internal components which SEB consists of, the kiosk application and the browser part. The kiosk application locks down the examination computer, the browser part communicates over the internet (or a LAN) with the quiz module of an LMS running on a server. It controls access to resources like system functions, other websites and applications and prevents unauthorized resources being used during an exam. This will allow students to reconnect to the Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi control button is shown in the taskbar. This will allow the student to switch between multiple keyboard layouts enabled on their operating system. If enabled, the keyboard layout is shown in the taskbar. If enabled, the current time is displayed in the taskbar in the SEB. If enabled, the student can reload the SEB browser window by clicking on the reload link in the taskbar. The taskbar must be enabled to display the Wi-Fi controls, reload button, time, and keyboard layout. If enabled, the student can open a taskbar at the bottom of the SEB window. If set to “Yes,” the student can reload the exam in the SEB. ![]() If no password is set, the user will be prompted, “Are you sure you want to quit SEB” when they exit. Set this to “Yes.” If this is set to “No.” students will not be able to exit the SEB even when finished with the quiz.Įnter a password that a student will have to use to quit the SEB. When students quit the SEB, they will be presented with a pop-up confirming they wish to quit the SEB.
